This is a 300-year-old Edo-period traditional house in Nichinan Town, Tottori Prefecture. It is a highly rare building said to be the home of Aoto Magosaburo, a wealthy merchant regarded as the founder of tatara ironmaking.
Rent and Usage Conditions
The rent is ¥13,000 per month. During the renovation period, the rent is ¥3,000 per month, and the conditions thereafter are negotiable. Residential rental is also possible, but rules and restrictions apply.
Building and Land Overview
The land area is 1,610 m², and the building area is 276 m². The floor plan has not been confirmed. The building is approximately 300 years old and qualifies as an Edo-period traditional house. Its condition is described as being suitable for moving in after cleaning.
Facilities Retaining the Character of the Edo Period
The building has an irori hearth, a traditional cooking stove, and a Goemonburo bath. The Goemonburo can use both an electric water heater and firewood. Use as a hands-on lodging facility or as a basis for operating an inn business is also envisioned.
Lifelines and Surrounding Environment
The gas is propane gas, the electricity is supplied by Chugoku Electric Power, and the water is well water used by the entire local area. Wastewater disposal is by collection. The property is approximately 50 minutes by car from Yonago City, and Kanemochi Shrine in neighboring Hino Town is approximately 25 minutes by car from the property. Nearby are tourist spots where fireflies appear in summer, as well as UNESCO-registered tourist spots.
Areas Requiring Renovation
Because the property has not been used for approximately 10 years, plumbing work for the water-related facilities may be necessary. The toilet uses a septic tank, and replacement of the pump and other components may be necessary. The bath is in a separate building, and replacement of the electric water heater may be necessary. Conversion to propane gas can also be considered. It is also possible to convert the men’s toilet next to the toilet inside the main house into a shower room and install a bathroom indoors.
The kitchen has a sink, but it is old and may need to be replaced. There are small holes in places, including on the walls, and repairs are necessary. The small windows do not have screens, so screens must be installed to prevent insects and small animals from entering.
Conditions for Use
Priority will be given to those who understand the rarity of traditional houses and the importance of preserving them, and who can repair the described facilities. Priority will also be given to those with experience operating private lodging facilities or inns, as well as lodging-related businesses, but consultation with individuals is also possible. Those planning to start a private lodging business are also eligible.
Utilization and Support
The use of crowdfunding can also be considered. Referrals to contractors are available for business-opening preparations, remodeling, and cleaning, and remote management is also supported. There is no parking lot, but cars can be parked on the road in front of the building. Additional photos are available, so please inquire for details.
